Jan’25 - DRY STONE RETAINING WALL & STEPS REBUILD, Dunning, Perthshire.
This was the first decent sized job of 2026 after our Christmas break - this wall was an absolute pleasure to build for extremely hospitable clients, who granted us full access to their onsite facilities (and some cakes/biscuits)
This was a really enjoyable mix of stone, we brought in several tonnes of Strathearn Sandstone and used that alongside the on-site existing slate from the original wall. We pulled the wall forward which consumed a huge amount of packing and internal building stone.
The new steps were the main focal point of the build using reclaimed whin kerbs for the risers and reclaimed cobbles for the tread - Using natural stone always blend nicely with a natural dry stone wall. The other set of steps were more natural and less formal, for folk to nip up instead of walking all the way to the ‘big steps’.
Flat copes were opted this time round and Hazel the gardener will be able to work soil heights and replanting. Looking forward to seeing this wall settle in.
