Love your bi-fold doors, but not the heat that comes with them?

Bi-fold doors are brilliant for flooding a room with natural light and opening up the view to the garden.

But all that glass can have a downside.

When the sun hits a large area of glazing, rooms can quickly become uncomfortably warm — with increased heat, glare and UV exposure often leading to closed blinds or curtains just to keep the room comfortable.

For this recent Shades Window Films project, we installed Silver 20 internal solar control window film to the property's bi-fold doors.

Why is some window film installed on the outside of the glass?

It's a question we're often asked — particularly when customers see installations like this recent External Silver 35 solar control film project.

Solar control from the outside. Natural light and views from the inside.

One of the concerns we often hear about solar window film is:

“Will it make my room feel dark?”

These two photos from a recent Shades Window Films installation help answer that perfectly.

We installed External Silver 35 solar control window film to this large area of residential glazing.

From outside, you can clearly see the smart reflective finish of the film. But take a look at the second photo from inside the room and you'll see that there's still plenty of natural daylight — and the view of the garden hasn't disappeared.

A recent project at Swindon Crematorium is a great example of how replacing older window film can improve much more than the appearance of a building.
