Play, learn, grow under the open sky. Even when it rains ☂️🌦️

At the AIS Early Years Facility in Singapore, 3,000 m² of ETFE canopies shelter outdoor play areas, learning spaces and a pool. Children can be outside, in natural light, in any weather – which is exactly the kind of environment that early childhood education specialists advocate.

Singapore's climate – intense sun, frequent heavy rain – makes outdoor learning a challenge. ETFE solves both problems simultaneously. The cushions transmit natural daylight and UV spectrum while protecting from rain, and the lightweight structure avoids the institutional heaviness that a conventional roof would introduce.

Designed by Architects, the project shows how ETFE can support genuine wellbeing outcomes in educational settings.

At KCC Mall of General Santos, a printed ETFE roof brings natural daylight into the atrium of a retail and leisure destination in one of the Philippines' fastest-growing cities.

The printed design balances light and solar control, creating a comfortable indoor environment while maintaining the open, sky-connected feeling that shoppers respond to.

General Santos sits in a region that experiences significant sun intensity year-round. Getting the solar control right is not optional, it directly determines whether the mall's central spaces are inviting or uncomfortable. ETFE's printability gives the design team precise control over that balance.

Projects like this show that ETFE is the right technical solution for retail developments across the Asia Pacific region.

ETFE as a giant LED screen? Only in Singapore 😍

At 100 Selegie Road, the Ten Square building uses a vertical ETFE facade integrated with large LED display panels to create one of the most distinctive downtown landmarks in Singapore. The building is a multi-story car vending machine and the ETFE facade makes it impossible to ignore.

The ETFE cladding works on two levels: by day, it provides a lightweight, transparent enclosure that allows views into and through the building. At night and during events, the integrated LED system uses the ETFE as a diffusion layer, turning the entire facade into an enormous, smooth display surface.

This project pushes ETFE into a new category entirely – not just a roof or canopy, but a dynamic, media-capable building skin.

50 m² of ETFE & and a ficus tree thriving underneath it 🌳

Not every ETFE project is a stadium or a shopping mall. At the Victorian Specialist Centre in Melbourne, a compact 50 m² ETFE skylight creates a light-filled entrance that is quietly extraordinary.

Two-layer ETFE cushions cover the entrance atrium where a mature ficus hillii tree grows beneath the roof. The ETFE transmits the natural light spectrum that the tree needs to thrive, creating a living, breathing entrance environment for a medical centre.

Healthcare environments benefit enormously from access to natural light and greenery. The Victorian Specialist Centre shows that ETFE can serve these goals with great elegance, even at modest scale. Sometimes the smallest projects make the strongest argument 🤗

The Beijing Olympics gave the world two iconic structures. One of them is built with ETFE ❤️

The National Aquatics Center – known worldwide as the Water Cube – is perhaps the most recognized ETFE building on the planet. Its distinctive bubble facade is not a visual trick: every "bubble" is an inflated ETFE cushion, part of a structural system that made this geometry achievable.

The irregular pattern of hexagons and pentagons is based on the Weaire-Phelan foam structure, nature's most efficient way to fill space with equal-volume bubbles. Translating this into a building envelope was only possible with ETFE. No other cladding material could be fabricated into these shapes at this scale, while remaining lightweight enough for the steel frame to carry.

Solar control through design: ETFE at Resorts World Sentosa 🌞🌤️

At one of Asia's most visited resort destinations, ETFE canopies with solar-control printing provide shade and weather protection while maintaining the open, tropical atmosphere that defines the Sentosa experience.

The printed pattern on the ETFE cushions is not only decorative, it is functional. By controlling the percentage of the surface covered with print, the solar transmittance of the cushions can be precisely tuned. The result is exactly the right balance of daylight and shade for an outdoor hospitality environment in Singapore's equatorial climate.

At Resorts World Sentosa, the ETFE canopies are both a performance solution and a visible expression of thoughtful building design.

Yarrawonga Performing Arts Centre, Australia

For the new atrium at the Yarrawonga Performing Arts Centre, Vector Foiltec Asia Pacific designed, fabricated, supplied and installed 13 two-layer ETFE cushions across 330 m².

Developed with N2SH Architects, the lightweight ETFE roof was chosen to provide visual transparency while still delivering effective shading. Supported by a steel structure, the system creates a bright, sheltered atrium space with minimal structural weight; a solution the client (Moira Shire Council) selected for its proven quality and reliable performance.

The first impression of any destination is its airport. At Mactan Cebu, ETFE sets the tone.

Terminal 2 at Mactan-Cebu International Airport features a 3,600 m² ETFE canopy that welcomes arriving passengers in the Philippines' second busiest gateway. The canopy is lightweight, transparent and specifically engineered for the tropical climate of the Visayas: intense sun, high humidity and the seasonal threat of typhoons.

ETFE's self-cleaning surface and resistance to UV degradation make it well-suited to airport applications, where performance standards must remain consistently high and maintenance access is limited. Over years of continuous operation, the canopy continues to deliver the same quality of light and shelter as at commissioning.

For an airport that connects the Philippines to the world, that reliability matters.
