Na Navee is a journey of Conservation and Adaptive Reuse, where every design decision was guided by respect for the house and its history.

This is the beginning of a series where we will share the philosophy, process, and architectural details behind the restoration of Na Navee.

Because every meaningful restoration begins by listening.

The Philosophy Behind Na Navee The Heritage
แนวคิดเบื้องหลังการฟื้นฟูบ้าน ณ นาวี

ก่อนที่ณนาวีจะกลายเป็นโครงการอนุรักษ์และฟื้นฟูอาคาร เราเริ่มต้นจากคำถามหนึ่งว่า

เราจะรักษาบ้านเก่าหลังหนึ่งไว้ได้อย่างไร โดยไม่ทำให้บ้านหยุดนิ่งอยู่กับอดีต

สำหรับSpacematter การอนุรักษ์ไม่ได้หมายถึงการเก็บทุกสิ่งไว้ให้เหมือนเดิม หรือพยายามพาอาคารย้อนกลับไปสู่ช่วงเวลาใดช่วงเวลาหนึ่งในประวัติศาสตร์

แต่คือการทำความเข้าใจสิ่งที่มีอยู่ รับฟังเรื่องราวของสถานที่ และมองหาวิธีที่อาคารจะสามารถดำเนินชีวิตต่อไปได้ในบริบทของปัจจุบัน

ณนาวีคือบ้านริมคลองอายุกว่า 120 ปี ที่ผ่านกาลเวลา ผู้คน และการเปลี่ยนแปลงมาหลายยุคสมัย แนวทางของเราจึงไม่ใช่การลบร่องรอยเหล่านั้นออก แต่เป็นการค่อย ๆ อ่านและทำความเข้าใจสิ่งที่บ้านเก็บไว้ ทั้งสถาปัตยกรรม วัสดุ ร่องรอยของการใช้งาน ความไม่สมบูรณ์ และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างตัวบ้านกับคลอง

The Philosophy Behind Na Navee

Before Na Navee became a restoration project, it began with a question:

How do we preserve an old house without turning it into something frozen in time?

At Studio Spacematter, we believe that conservation is not simply about keeping everything as it was. A building survives when it can continue to be lived in, adapted, and given new meaning.

Na Navee is a 120-year-old canal-side house shaped by time, people, and layers of change. Our approach was not to return the house to one particular moment in its history, but to listen carefully to what was already there — its architecture, traces, imperfections, memories, and relationship with the canal.

Some elements were restored.
Some traces were intentionally left visible.
Some spaces were given new purposes.
And new interventions were introduced quietly, without competing with the original house.

The goal was not to make Na Navee look new again.

It was to allow the house to continue its life.

For us, conservation is not about freezing time.
It is about creating continuity.

อีกหนึ่งโปรเจกต์ที่ Spacematter ภูมิใจเป็นอย่างยิ่ง

Na Navee The Heritage คือโครงการอนุรักษ์และปรับเปลี่ยนการใช้งานบ้านประวัติศาสตร์ริมคลอง ที่ออกแบบโดย SpaceMatter ภายใต้ความเชื่อว่าการอนุรักษ์ไม่ใช่เพียงการเก็บรักษาอดีต แต่คือการทำให้สถานที่ยังคงมีชีวิตและสร้างความทรงจำบทใหม่ได้ต่อไป

The interior design of Serrana Phuket is conceived as an extension of the architecture, where spatial continuity, materiality, and function are integrated into a cohesive whole. An open-plan arrangement connects the living, dining, and pantry areas, allowing the interior to function as a single, fluid space rather than a series of enclosed rooms.

The pantry is treated as a quiet architectural element, seamlessly integrated into the composition through warm timber surfaces and restrained detailing. Rather than becoming a focal point, it supports everyday living while maintaining the clarity of the overall spatial experience.

Large openings frame views of the landscape and encourage natural ventilation, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. This approach reinforces the project's relationship with its tropical setting, creating a sequence of spaces that are open, adaptable, and deeply connected to their environment.

At Serrana Lakefront Pool Villa Phuket, the lake is conceived as an architectural frame — shaping views, light, and spatial atmosphere throughout the house.

Large openings and layered transitions create a continuous dialogue between architecture and landscape, while rammed earth walls gently connect spaces and guide movement from enclosed areas toward open lakefront living. Their natural texture reinforces the relationship between exterior and interior, allowing the architecture to feel grounded, calm, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

A carefully composed sequence defines the arrival experience at Serrana Lakefront Pool Villa Phuket. The journey begins through a narrow transitional corridor framed by rammed earth walls, gently guiding movement from the parking and porch area toward the interior living space. Rather than functioning only as a boundary, the textured earth surface becomes an architectural device that choreographs light, scale, and perception throughout the sequence.

As one moves inward, the compression of the entrance gradually opens into a calm and expansive living volume, creating a subtle contrast between intimacy and openness. The continuity of material palettes — earth, stone, timber, and soft neutral tones — strengthens the relationship between exterior and interior, allowing architecture to feel grounded, warm, and deeply connected to its landscape.
