Tall, dry grass can be tough on your mower — and it can also be a fire hazard.

If you’re mowing an overgrown, dry area, take a few extra precautions. Check for rocks, limbs and other debris before you start, keep dry grass from building up around the engine and exhaust, and avoid mowing over anything that could create a spark. Take your time and don’t force your mower through grass that’s too thick or tall.
And always keep an eye out for smoke or the smell of something burning. Your yard can wait — a grass fire won’t!
