More than 350,000 EMS-assessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the U.S. each year, and according to the American Heart Association, about 90% are fatal. However, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.

Our former LifeNet of New York patient, Tom Williams, knows this firsthand.

While competing in the Musselman Half Ironman triathlon in Geneva, NY, Tom suffered a cardiac arrest. His wife, Hillary, immediately began CPR with the help of another bystander until fellow racers and EMS crews arrived. Because of the severity of his condition, the LifeNet of New York team transported Tom to a critical care hospital for advanced care.

Tom’s story highlights the importance of CPR training and quick action. It can save a life, and possibly the life of someone you love.
