🌳🚧 Why We Clear and Trim Roadside Trees 🚧🌳

You may see our crews cutting brush and trimming trees along the roads this season. This work isn't just about looks. It keeps our roads safer and in better shape for everyone. Here's why it matters:

🧂 Less salt needed: Sunlight is one of our best tools for melting snow and ice. When trees block the sun, roads stay icy longer and need more salt and sand. Clearing them means less salt, lower costs, and less runoff into our streams and wells.

👀 Better line of sight: Overgrown brush can hide stop signs, driveways, intersections, pedestrians, and deer. Trimming it back gives drivers more time to see and react.

🌑 Fewer shadows: Shaded patches of road can hold black ice long after the rest of the road has cleared. They can also make it harder to spot people, animals, or hazards, especially at dawn and dusk.

↩️ Safer blind corners: Branches and brush on curves can hide oncoming traffic. Opening up those corners helps drivers see what's coming before it's too late.

🌲 Preventing falling trees and limbs: Dead, leaning, or damaged trees can come down in wind, snow, or ice storms. They can block roads, take out power lines, and damage vehicles or hurt people. Removing them early prevents emergencies later.

🛣️ Longer-lasting roads: Shaded pavement stays wet, which speeds up freeze-thaw damage, cracking, and potholes. Roots can break up the road edges, and overhanging limbs can damage plows and trucks. Letting sunlight and air reach the road helps it last longer and saves taxpayer money.

Thank you for your patience while our crews are working. Please slow down and give them room when you see them on the road! 🧡
