A bench fringed in horsehair, its silhouette inspired by centuries of local craft. A hand-pierced Barro Negro vessel from Oaxaca, holding plumeria cut fresh that morning. Light moving across the floor the way it’s moved across this coastline for millennia.

Sometimes the whole design philosophy fits in a single corner.

At , the pieces we created carry the mark of the hand that made them, and the history behind them. Chosen with intention, then set down with enough restraint to let the morning light do the rest.

A vocabulary from the Gilded Age, reconsidered.

Blue-and-white porcelain, tufted upholstery, and a four-poster frame in dark-stained wood.

When Richard Morris Hunt completed Biltmore in 1895, the era's furnishing language was one of collected objects and architectural presence: rooms built to hold art, textiles, and travel in equal measure.

This guest room borrows that same vocabulary and edits it down. William Morris, the Arts and Crafts designer whose work was a contemporary of Biltmore's own, supplies the pattern across the wall covering, drapery, and rug. Every other element is given room to resolve into form rather than compete for it.

The same instinct for restraint, a century on.

Effortless doesn't happen by accident.

Behind every space we design is a process most people never see: the material studies, the mockups, the renderings, and thousands of small decisions made and remade until a room feels inevitable rather than designed.

Design Director and Principal Deanne Teeter has spent her career in that space between rigor and intuition, building the kind of expertise that lets a finished room feel like it was always meant to be exactly this way.

The work is deliberate, which is exactly why the result feels effortless.

We’re proud to have designed the interiors for this 35-story, 251-key landmark, where the Pacific Northwest landscape meets timeless luxury. From the soft, nature-inspired palette to the nods to Portland’s golden age of travel, every detail was crafted to make the stay unforgettable.

A study in scale at

George Vanderbilt built Biltmore in the late 1880s as a self-sustaining country retreat, working with architect Richard Morris Hunt and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted to bring together European grandeur and Blue Ridge Mountain surroundings into one considered whole.

That same instinct—different elements, different scales, working in harmony rather than competing—is exactly what we chased in this guest room renovation. A nod to the estate's legacy of layered craftsmanship, updated for storied, but modern, experience.

Here, each individual pattern given its own register so the composition builds rather than competes.
