Lead hazards are not always easy to spot. In homes built before 1978, lead based paint may be found on windows, doors, trim, porches, stairs, railings, and other painted surfaces. As paint chips, peels, or wears from everyday use, lead dust may settle on floors, toys, and other places young children touch. Marshalltown’s Lead Hazard Reduction Grant helps eligible households identify and address lead hazards before they become a bigger concern. If your home was built before 1978 and a child under age 6 lives in the home, take the first step today. 📚 Kindergarten Ready? Don't Forget the Lead Test! 🎒🍎

As families prepare for the new school year, make sure your kindergarten checklist includes a blood lead level test.

In Iowa, legislation requires that all children entering kindergarten have at least one blood lead level test. The goal of this requirement is to protect Iowa children under age 6 from lead exposure, which can damage developing brains and nervous systems and contribute to developmental and learning difficulties.

Lead exposure often has no obvious symptoms, making testing an important step in ensuring your child is healthy and ready to learn.

Let's work together to keep Iowa's children safe, healthy, and ready to succeed in the classroom!

It's here! Today is the Day! 🥳 Stop by the courthouse lawn today anytime from 9am-1pm to visit the 30+ booths that are devoted to serving the community. Iowa Coffee Cup will be there serving up your favorite drinks. Also, from 11am-11:45am a Tai Chi demonstration will be given by the freedom rock - stop by to give it try!! So many things to see and do, you won't want to miss it, so see you all soon!
