🪰🌿 A PLANT THAT EATS BUGS?! 🌿🪰

Yes, please! 😍 Our Venus flytraps at In Bloom at Calgo Gardens are ready to go home with their new plant parents!

These fascinating little carnivorous plants are not only fun to watch—they’re also surprisingly easy to care for when you give them what they need.

🌱 VENUS FLYTRAP CARE 101 🌱

☀️ LOTS of sunlight!
Venus flytraps love bright light. A sunny windowsill or several hours of direct sunlight each day is ideal. A grow light can also work beautifully.

💧 Use the RIGHT water!
This is one of the most important tips! Use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse-osmosis water. Regular tap water can contain minerals that build up and harm your flytrap.

🌿 Keep the soil moist.
Never let the growing medium completely dry out. The pot can sit in a small amount of water, especially during the growing season.

🚫 NO regular potting soil!
Venus flytraps need nutrient-poor, acidic soil. Avoid standard potting soil and fertilizers—they can actually damage the plant.

🪰 Let your flytrap do the hunting!
It doesn’t need to be fed constantly. If it catches an insect on its own, wonderful! Never feed it hamburger, meat or other human food.

👆 And don’t trigger the traps for fun!
Those little traps use energy to close. Repeatedly setting them off without food can stress the plant.

❄️ Remember their winter dormancy!
Venus flytraps naturally go dormant during the colder months. They may slow down, lose some leaves and look much smaller. That’s normal! Keep them cool, provide light, and continue using appropriate water while adjusting care to their slower growth.
