The Shaker Style Secret 📜✨

Did you know that the most popular cabinet style in America was originally designed by a 19th-century religious community? 🤯🕵️‍♀️

If you’ve scrolled through Pinterest or walked into our La Plata showroom, you’ve seen a Shaker-style cabinet. It’s the ultimate chameleon of the design world—featuring a clean, five-piece door with a recessed center panel.

But where did it actually come from?

The Origin Story: The design belongs to the Shakers, a historic religious sect in the 1800s known for their strict principles of utility, honesty, and simplicity. They believed that making something beautiful and highly functional was an act of prayer. They intentionally stripped away all the fussy, ornate carvings popular in Victorian times, focusing purely on durable, high-quality wood craftsmanship.

Why it’s STILL the #1 choice for home renovations today:

1️⃣ The Ultimate Style Chameleon: Because the lines are so clean, a Shaker door can pivot instantly. Pair it with a slab drawer head and matte black hardware, and it looks completely modern. Pair it with a five-piece drawer head and warm bronze hardware, and it looks beautifully traditional.

2️⃣ It Never Ages: Trends come and go (looking at you, cathedral arches from the '90s!), but the Shaker profile has been in style for over 200 years. It’s a bulletproof investment for your home resale value.

3️⃣ Low Maintenance: Fewer intricate crevices mean less dust buildup. It’s as easy to clean as it is to look at!

Whether we are installing a sleek white Shaker kitchen or a moody, deep-toned laundry room, this profile remains our absolute go-to for a timeless finish. Don't believe us? Take a look at the photo from our BRAND NEW kitchen display featuring fabulous Fabuwood shaker style doors in the color Desert Oak! 🛠️🕊️

The secret to pulling off a "Tuxedo" kitchen layout (without it feeling chaotic). 🖤🕊️

Yesterday, we fell in love with our fresh Pistachio Green and Linen mood board. But here at Custom Kitchens, it is our job to design and figure out exactly how to make that dream function flawlessly in your home.

If you're thinking about a multi-colored or "tuxedo-style" kitchen (where the upper and lower cabinets are different colors), here are 3 technical details we map out behind the scenes to keep your project running at full speed:

1️⃣ The Focal Point Factor: To keep a two-toned kitchen looking balanced, we choose a dominant color (usually the darker shade on the lowers) and use the lighter shade on the uppers to make the ceilings feel higher and airier.

2️⃣ The Hardware Alignment: When you mix cabinet colors, keeping your hardware consistent is the "glue" that ties the whole room together. That's why we paired both finishes with identical Berenson Hardware matte black pulls.

3️⃣ Ordering & Lead Times: Ordering custom finishes requires strict coordination. We manage the timelines from the initial design down to the delivery truck, making sure your custom doors and fabricated countertops arrive in perfect alignment so there are no construction delays.

The Bottom Line: A beautiful kitchen starts with a mood board, but it finishes with flawless logistics. Take a look at this photo from our website below to see this in action!

Meet your new kitchen obsession: Pistachio Green & Linen. 🌿✨

Who says neutral kitchens have to be white? For this week’s design inspiration, we are breaking the mold with an Organic Contemporary palette that feels incredibly fresh, calm, and grounded.

We started with a beautiful "tuxedo-style" layout using Fabuwood Cabinetry Galaxy doors in the soft, creamy Linen finish paired with the stunning, earthy Pistachio Green.

To elevate the contemporary edge, we curated high-contrast architectural details:

Hardware: Berenson Hardware Swagger matte black pulls paired with their sleek Contemporary Advantage matte black k***s. The clean lines bring the perfect balance to the soft cabinet hues.

Fixtures: A beautiful, high-arc matte black kitchen faucet from Ferguson Home.

The Countertop: A flawlessly fabricated, bright stone top from our partners at Solid Rock.

The Design Tip: In contemporary spaces, it's all about how the surfaces feel together. Mixing matte hardware with smooth stone and textured wood tones turns a simple kitchen into a high-end sanctuary.

Call to Action: Thinking about a colorful upgrade for your next home renovation? We love making unconventional design dreams a reality. Click the link in our bio to visit our showroom and see these Fabuwood finishes in person! 📲
