This kitchen? It started because our clients couldn’t stop thinking about this marble.
So we listened. Built everything around it. Let the stone do the talking. Then added their favorite green to ground the whole thing without fighting for attention.
That’s kind of how good design actually works. You listen to what someone loves, then you follow that thread. Stop trying to force your aesthetic on them. 💚
When you do it that way, the space ends up feeling like theirs. Not like a showroom. Just real.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Unpopular opinion loading.

You might actually lose clients when you speak up.

My post a few days ago garnered more views, comments, likes and shares than ANYTHING I have ever posted before. And a lot of private messages from designers saying the same thing: “I’ve been afraid to say anything because I thought I’d lose clients.”

So let’s talk about that part.

Because yes, you might lose clients when you speak up. That’s not a maybe. That’s an actual reality. Been there -Done that too.

But here’s what else is true: when the wrong clients leave, the right ones show up faster. And they come in already aligned, already trusting you, already clear.

Values don’t repel good clients. They filter.

And filtering saves you from building a business that looks successful but never feels right.

That said (here’s what could be unpopular) - your business platform cannot become a single-issue platform. No one follows you to be lectured on repeat. They’re here for your work, your perspective, the way you think about design and business. Not to mention it’s not good for your mental health.

The balance matters.

What you believe and what you do for a living have to live together. Not compete. Not cancel each other out.

Your values inform your business. They don’t replace it.

And when you let BOTH be seen, you don’t just build visibility. You build a business that actually feels like yours. It’s all about the mix my friend. Sending you all love and strength, xo john

And you also cannot separate yourself from what is happening just because it feels inconvenient.
Silence is a choice, and at this moment, it is not a neutral one. CALL YOUR SENATORS TO VOICE YOUR OPINION. It’s 5 mins and a voicemail. Please step up and do the right thing. I know there is goodness in the hearts of most. Or at least I hope so… 💔
