A reminder that this is our last week with open hours here at the nursery! I'll be here 10-5 every day except Thursday, when I'll be closing at 1 to get ready for White Lake WI Farmers and Makers Market. You can find me there most weeks, 4-6pm. After Saturday you'll need to make an appointment to shop in person.

I'm a big fan of witch hazel in general, and Hamamelis virginiana 'Little Prospect' is a strikingly variegated form of our native species! Dark green leaves with wide vivid yellow borders are about half the size of the normal species. It grows somewhat slower and denser, with a tendency towards upright-pyramidal growth. It should reach at least 10' tall and wide with age. Yellow flowers bloom late in the season, September-November. Yellow fall color. Selected in Tennessee, this variety holds up well to the sun there; but bright shade or partial sun is still best. Grafted plants 12-15" tall.

Helleborus x hybridus WINTER JEWELS® 'Double Slate is a double-flowered form with slate grey to black flowers. Easy to grow in organic rich but well-drained soils. Leathery evergreen foliage is deer and slug resistant. Grown from seed, expect some variation in flower colors.

Helleborus niger is a very early blooming species, usually starting in March here in the north. In mild climates it blooms over Christmas, hence the name "Christmas rose". 'Snowbells' is a new seed strain with outward facing semi-double pure white flowers. Like other hellebores, this is easy to grow in organic rich but well-drained soils. Leathery evergreen foliage is deer and slug resistant; but rabbits seem to love mine. These Hellebores are seed strains and there can be variability from plant to plant.

Hosta 'Fruit Loop' has rounded, green leaves surrounded by a white margin that are heavily puckered at maturity. This is a lovely small hosta with lots of texture for the front of the border or a trough garden. ('Minuta' F1 sdlg B × 'Shining Tot') x (x 'Lakeside Looking Glass') Doug & Mardy Beilstein 2013.

'Twist of Lime' is a sport of 'Lemon Lime' with chartreuse centers and green margins. Fast growing and rhizomatous, it makes a great groundcover or edger. Dark purple flowers are held on 15" tall scapes in mid-summer and put on an excellent show. Great in combination with 'Lemon Frost' which is also a sport of 'Lemon Lime'.

Where are all the Romance Novel readers at?! A Botanophilia LLC exclusive! Hosta 'Bodice Ripper' is a hybrid of a 'Bywood Canna' seedling x 'Sutter's Mill' from Jeff Moore. It is a large plant with chartreuse to apple green centers and cream margins. Leaves are dimpled and have wavy margins and twisted tips. It's a really great hosta and we're excited to have named and introduced it for Jeff.

'Dancing With Dragons' is a newer blue Hosta from breeder Hans Hansen. It has long lasting intense blue color on heavily rippled leaves. Pale lavender flowers on tall scapes in mid summer. Similar in look to 'Neptune', but a much denser mound, and I think this plant is a significant improvement! Also, dragons! Who doesn't want more dragons in the garden?! Complex hybrid of (('Medusa' x venusta) x ('Neptune' x 'Fulda')) x (('Neptune' x 'Fulda') x 'Joy Ride')

Hosta 'Floradora' has small, green foliage that's heart shaped and makes a dense mound. Profuse bloomer with lavender flowers in mid-summer; this one should be grown for its flowers more than its foliage. Perfect edger or unassuming filler most of the year, but a showpiece when in bloom. Reportedly a hybrid of nakaiana x (longipes dwarf seedling). Rarely available. 9 left.
