MSR Design principal Kate Michaud and senior associate Lauren Gardner spoke at the Library Journal Design Institute in Columbus, Ohio earlier this month. They co-led expert panel discussions with architects and librarians, as well as hands-on, designer-led breakout sessions that addressed real-life design challenges in partnership with our client the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Topics included sustainable design, adaptive reuse, and strategic modernization with Kate and meaningful engagement, user experience research, and stakeholder collaboration with Lauren.

We are excited to share the news that the new Saratoga Springs City Hall has won an AIA Utah (American Institute of Architects) Merit Award.

The annual design awards program supports AIA Utah’s goal to enhance the practice of architecture and the built environment across Utah and the promotion of architecture in general.

The new Saratoga Springs City Hall brings together multiple public agencies to create an integrated experience that connects people with each other and to the services they seek. The building houses the city hall, library, shared community spaces, county services, and a county health clinic.

We’re excited to share that MSR Design Principal Kate Michaud will present “Architecting Access: Designing New and Existing Facilities for Unstaffed Self-Service” at the 2026 American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago.

Held Saturday, June 27, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Central, the session will explore how libraries can design new and existing facilities to support unstaffed patron self-service during nontraditional hours—while keeping spaces secure, welcoming, and easy to use.
