So finally got around to the big trees that needed some prep work. Nice Bald Cypress that got its first air layer.. if this one works, I’ll probably take one more and then look at that baddie Nabari…. The mama tree is gonna be fire!
Up next, I have a River Birch that I was going to air layer and do a clump style forest but I decided because it had a pretty decent Nabari, I’m just going to trim it down and keep thickening the trunk.
Lastly, I got a really nice thick maple that’s got a branch of deadwood. I think this year I’m going to trim and start the wire some of the branches and then work on the root system next year.
When I purchased these trees a year and a half ago they cost me $200 even. Obviously the wiring is going to be the telltale here once it’s done next year ….BUT by the time I’m done with them I’ll have three baddie Bald Cypress, one Baddie River Birch, and one really baddie Maple.
Think I will quadruple my investment in say another year or 2?

Repotted a Japanese Barberry into a Matt Borst pot I’ve been dying to get a tree in. The rustic colors complement the tree well.

Thanks to everyone who has shared/liked a post on and/or followed the Treebeard Bonsai FB Page! I hit 200 followers today! I’ve met so many awesome folks in the Bonsai World and am so glad I jumped in head first!
