CBP Architects Architectural Intern Ryan Sharples was awarded Second Place in the 2026 “Design With Light” Student design competition!

Organized by the Philadelphia chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), this annual award raises awareness of the lighting design profession within the student community. Ryan and the other winners were honored Thursday, June 11 at The Philaments Awards, at The Franklin Institute.

This year’s brief required students to develop a custom tabletop luminaire, exploring the interplay between light and materiality and its experiential impact.

Sharples’ winning design “Vicinage” offers opportunities for soft emerging light to capture and invite inquiry through its larger solid mass and series of reveals. The luminaire’s accentuating changes in patterns, finishes, forms, and transparency tell a story about the relationship between neighbors, and how light bridges divides between spaces.

We are excited to share that Meadowbrook Apartments has closed on financing! Construction will soon begin on this new four-story, 42-unit affordable housing project in Langhorne, PA, on the campus of Woods Services; a nonprofit providing care for people with behavioral health complexities, autism, and developmental disabilities.

In addition to providing a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwelling units, several are planned to be set aside for Woods Services clients. A first-floor medical suite will offer enhanced health and wellness services to the existing campus with which Meadowbrook Apartments will be integrated.

On Tuesday June 2, CBP Architects attended the celebratory ribbon-cutting and grand opening of Clearfield Apartments, hosted by NewCourtland and partner Allegheny West Foundation.

This new construction project, designed by CBP Architects, brings 48 one-bedroom affordable senior housing units to the Allegheny West neighborhood, transforming a former industrial site into a dynamic community hub with exterior detailing that complements the neighborhood’s former-industrial architecture.

We are proud to contribute to this project and look forward to seeing it positively impact the Allegheny West community! Click on the link in our bio to read more about the event.

CBP Architects recently welcomed Ryan Rose to our firm!

Drawn to CBP for its projects that positively impact communities, Ryan joined us in late 2025 as an intern while he pursues his B.Arch at Drexel University. A lifelong musician, former competitive swimmer, and one-time Lindy Scholars Program mentor; Ryan is used to supporting others and reliably contributes to projects. In his free time, he plays the cello and double bass in the Philly-based jazz band, the Serenade Lounge.

Welcome, Ryan!

The Carriage House Residence recently appeared in Philadelphia magazine’s April 2026 issue, where Lifestyle Editor Emily Goulet highlights the project for its dramatic 1,000-bottle wine cellar.

The four-story residence features an historic adaptive reuse design by CBP Architects that transformed two mixed-use rowhouses with a collection of tight, cramped spaces into a light-filled and spacious single-family home.

Last week, CBP Architects attended Carman Gardens’ wall-breaking ceremony! This event commemorated the beginning of construction, and this former roller rink’s transformation into a 20,000+ sq. ft. community health and wellness center.

When complete, the new Carman Gardens Health Center will host Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. (GPHA), who will provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and other services to the East Tioga-Hunting Park neighborhood; while the building itself will maintain its presence as a community landmark.

We are excited to see this project take shape!

On Thursday April 16th, CBP hosted a group of students from West Philadelphia High School for an in-house presentation and design charrette as part of DesignPhiladelphia’s contribution to the AIA’s Architecture Week 2026.

The students were introduced to our firm and work before being given an opportunity to draw and design their own dwelling units. They also explored the office and talked to Project Architects about their daily responsibilities. At the end of the visit, they presented their work to their classmates.

We are extremely pleased to have played a role in educating young students about the Architecture profession, which is often underrepresented in traditional high school curricula. We want to give a big thanks to DesignPhiladelphia for facilitating events like these and look forward to future opportunities to foster creativity and design skills in young people!
