🌿 Before and after front garden bed 🌿

I dug out all of the hostas and many multiflora roses sprouting everywhere, moved some rocks, planted stonecrop sedums and a hydrangea, added pine bark mulch mini nuggets.

This location is in full sun, so the hostas were looking tired and spent. The garden looks much more purposeful with the uncovered rocks and newly added sedum. The homeowner wanted to keep the azalea, and plans to prune it in the spring.

Woodland Gardening

My front yard is situated under two massive pin oak trees. We are letting the moss cover most of the unplanted areas instead of grass. There are a mix of natives and shade perennials. We have a tricky spot that is slopped so doesn’t stay very damp, has heavy deer pressure, and some hot late afternoon sun. Trying to cover all of the pine bark with plants is the longterm goal. Patience is key—- I often have to repeat the old adage for perennials: first year sleep, second year creep, third year leap.

I’m starting to really like petunias. I wasn’t a fan of them and struggled to keep them alive. My mom always had petunias on our deck while growing up. Thanks to my daughter for picking these out this year.
