Big congratulations to Burbank Housing on the ribbon cutting for Bowman Place in Healdsburg! We were thrilled to have VMWP team members Sherry Scott, Elitsa Shepherd, Gretchen Till, and Mary Helen Kennedy join the celebration last Thursday to mark the opening of this vibrant new community. It is always a joy to see these much-needed homes come to life and welcome their first residents.

This mixed-use development in Healdsburg is a key piece of the North Village master plan, bringing 53 units of much-needed affordable and workforce rental housing to the community. Designed to foster connection and accessibility, the project includes a retail promenade, children's playground, and beautifully landscaped open spaces that will serve as a vibrant hub for local families and the workforce.

The VMWP team had an inspiring morning at the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County’s Annual Affordable Housing Month Policy Breakfast and Bus Tour. Fred Pollack, Karen Murray, Ben Chuaqui, Elaine Uang, and Preeti Srinivasan enjoyed connecting with so many friends and colleagues in the affordable housing world to discuss regional solutions and explore local developments. We want to thank HLCSMC for hosting this event and for their ongoing advocacy to advance housing opportunities.

It was a joyful day at Eden Housing's Timber Street Apartments in Newark, California where VMWPers Rick Williams, Elitsa Shepherd, Corina Dumitrescu, and Hayley Wrubel joined residents to help plant their new community garden. Working alongside leader Emily Yang, and landscape architect Lia Farley, our team felt lucky to witness the delight and community spirit as residents began to grow their own green space. This special event highlighted the beauty of living in community and the importance of creating vibrant, supportive environments for our seniors.

The Half Moon Bay City Council has officially approved a 99-year ground lease for a 100% affordable housing development at 555 Kelly Avenue, marking a major milestone for the long-debated project. The five-story building, developed by Mercy Housing and designed by Van Meter Williams Pollack LLP (VMWP), will provide 40 residential units specifically for older farmworkers and their families, alongside a farmworker resource center operated by the nonprofit Ayudando Latinos A Soñar - ALAS.

The project secured a $1 annual lease and $2 million in state grant funding to address the critical need for senior farmworker housing following the 2023 mass shooting.

New aerial images of Resources for Community Development's Victory Village project highlight how beautifully the site has matured now that the project is 6 years old. Nestled in the wooded valley of Fairfax, the senior housing community features a design that gently terraces into the hillside, preserving the natural character of the 2 acre site. It is rewarding to see the integrated bioswales performing successfully as they manage stormwater while contributing to the lush, established landscape that residents enjoy today. Special thanks to Ken Gutmaker for capturing these new perspectives of the community in its full, seasonal growth.
