Don’t pile mulch high around your trees! “Mulch volcanoes” trap moisture against the trunk, inviting rot, pests, and disease. Keep mulch 2 to 4 inches deep and pull it a few inches away from the trunk. Your trees will thank you! 🌳

Tree Fact: Most tree roots are not deep underground. Around 90% of a tree’s roots grow within the top 18 inches of soil and often spread well beyond the canopy. That’s why driving heavy equipment, piling dirt or digging near a tree can damage it even when the trunk is never touched. Protect the ground around your trees and you protect the whole tree. 🌳

A tree doesn’t have to be dead to become dangerous. Hanging limbs, cracks where large branches connect, cavities, mushrooms near the base, exposed or damaged roots, and sudden leaning can all be warning signs that a tree is losing strength.
