Twenty years ago today, I was hired as a design assistant fresh out of school by the iconic designer Billi Springer.

This bed was created for our clients’ home in Whitefish, Montana. It was my very first design project. Design styles change, and what once felt timeless may now belong to another era, but when I look at this photo, I don’t see something out of style. I see a beginning.

Billi gave me an opportunity I never would have had otherwise. She changed the course of my life, taught me more than I could ever fully express, and shaped the way I see beauty, detail, craftsmanship, and generosity.

Her passing ten years ago remains one of the hardest losses I have ever experienced. I still mourn her today, as so many in the design community do. She was a tremendous talent, a force, and a gift. Billi believed angels helped her design her homes, and I know for a fact I have one helping me now.

Today, I’m remembering her with deep gratitude; for the chance she took on me, for everything she taught me, and for the beauty she left behind. 🤍 WWBD
