No hot water call out, turned into the potential for an expensive replacement. These units use proprietary inducer blowers, gas valves and other necessary components for safe and efficient performance. With that being said, repair costs can sometimes exceed the cost of a replacement.

Got the inducer motor dried out and thankfully the water hadn't entered the pressure switches yet. This was a "temporary" fix for the customer as they are deciding on next steps as the current unit is about 22 years old.

Replacements aren't just about squeezing more cash from the customer, the replacement blower with install would have costed roughly $1,000 after tax. BUT they would still run the risk of the improper vent slope to cause the new motor to fill up with condensate water again.

With a replacement, you get newer upgrades to this style water heater to prevent common issues like this as well as a factory warranty and a little more peace of mind. Stay tuned.

Ever wonder what your water softener actually does when it regenerates?
Think of the resin inside your softener like millions of tiny magnets.
As hard water flows through the softener, those “magnets” grab onto hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium, keeping them from traveling into your home. That’s what helps prevent scale buildup on fixtures, water heaters, shower doors, and appliances.
Eventually, though, those magnets get full. They need to be cleaned off and reset. That's where the salt in your brine tank comes in.
A typical regeneration cycle looks something like this:
1️⃣ Backwash
Water flows backward through the resin bed, loosening it up and flushing out sediment and debris.
2️⃣ Brine Draw
The softener pulls salty brine from the brine tank. Think of the salt as being strong enough to pull the hardness minerals off those little magnets. The calcium and magnesium are released from the resin and sent down the drain.
3️⃣ Slow Rinse
Water continues moving through the resin slowly, washing the displaced hardness minerals and excess brine out of the system.
4️⃣ Fast Rinse
A faster flow of water settles and packs the resin bed back into place while flushing out anything remaining.
5️⃣ Brine Tank Refill
The softener adds a measured amount of fresh water back to the salt tank. That water dissolves salt and creates the brine needed for the next regeneration.
After that, those little resin “magnets” are recharged and ready to grab hardness again.
And this is why simply having salt in your softener doesn't necessarily mean it's working!
A plugged injector, stuck brine float, restricted brine line, incorrect programming, or other problem can prevent the softener from regenerating correctly—even when the salt tank looks full.
If you're noticing hard-water spots, scale buildup, dry skin, or suddenly going through more or less salt than usual, your softener may be telling you something.

Make sure whatever you're doing in life you make time for the fun stuff too. The last few weeks have been crazy.
Forever humble because I could have had less, forever grateful because I've had less I saw this sign in a customer's shop, custom made I'm assuming. It stuck with me. The path to success is not easy, it's bloody, tearful, stressful and sometimes it's sucks. I remember how far I've come and it's been a blessing being able to see the hard work paying off. Keep after it and you'll be unstoppable.

Today's helper score 3/10

Had to let him go.

Constantly running into the basement windows, not listening to my instructions and couldn't handle the heat. Good help is still hard to find these days.

Never a dull moment with old galvanized kitchen drain lines. The best part, the customer was on the books to get new siding in a couple weeks. Couldn't have asked for a better time for those rotted sections to start leaking.

While I applaud DIY repairs, please don't do this. The new homeowners assumed a licensed plumber installed the existing lav faucet and pop up assembly. Google is a heck of a tool if you allow it to be.

Left photo shows what a previous homeowner did, right photo shows how it's supposed to be installed.
