Kansas weather is wild!

This week we’re going from a 15° wind chill to almost 90° in just a few days. That kind of temperature swing doesn’t just make people uncomfortable — it also affects every material around your home.

Here’s what happens:

• Concrete expands and contracts, which can lead to small cracks.
• Wood shrinks in cold weather and swells in heat and humidity.
• PVC and plastics expand in heat and tighten in cold.
• The ground itself moves as soil freezes, thaws, dries, and shifts.

That’s why patios, sidewalks, decks, and retaining walls sometimes develop cracks or small movement over time.

As builders here in Kansas, we design projects to handle these conditions with proper joints, drainage, and structural support. But the reality is Mother Nature puts everything to the test.

So if you see a small crack or movement, remember — most of the time it’s the weather, not poor construction.

We poured and stamped the patio earlier in the year and now are moving right along with adding a shade structure over it. It took a little structural engineering considering it’s 38’ wide. Final pics to come after complete.

We get 1-2 letters a month from different vendors. Prices are not going back down either. Not 1 letter says decrease it’s always increase. Waiting to do a project to see when prices drop? Do it now and save yourself future increases.
