Queensbridge Road, 2019-2022, In this project, we explored the challenge of the common historic build in London where the front and the back of the buildings are often divorced and unrelated to one another; the front is a veneer whilst the back appears as an afterthought; our wish was to unite the two and introduce two volumes at the back; a taller rectangular one juxtaposed by a lower longer volume whose shape took the cue from the arched sash front windows (an unusual feature for Victorian houses) and repeating the arched shape, we created a bespoke, one of a kind roof that consists of extruded arches trough which travels deep inside the house; the volumes are treated with a combination of smooth and rough plaster, the metal frame doors and windows enhance the historic character of the house and the fluted wraps around the house and is found covering the patio whilst taking the arched form to the ground; interiors emulate the historic heritage including simple pine flooring and traditional black and white tiles; the projects respects the historic context in an innovative and playful way, our labour of love and care ❤️
