Perched above the wild west coast of Piha, this renovation reconfigures a humble 1980s masonry block dwelling into a finely tuned coastal retreat that both respects and amplifies its dramatic natural context. An expanded floor plate, new roof structure and comprehensive recladding unify the composition, replacing the original shell with a crisp, symmetrical form that sits confidently within the bush-lined ridgeline.

The upper-level extension orients the living spaces toward panoramic 270° views, framed by expansive apertures that dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. Internally, a reconfigured open-plan arrangement fosters spatial generosity, with the kitchen, dining, and living zones flowing seamlessly to a sheltered deck — calibrated to mitigate prevailing winds and encourage year-round occupation.
