The problem was lack of space for a growing family. The challenge wasn't: "lets extend the house", it was: "how do we create a home that feels connected, spacious and full of light?"

Careful redesign and skylights improved flow and seperate space to gather or retreat, transforming the way the home feels to live in, day to day.

You know the feeling of opening a bathroom door... and the toilet is the first thing that greets you.

It's a common layout mistake, and it says a lot about how a bathroom is (or isn't) designed with the occupants' lifestyle in mind.

From early concepts through to detailed selection documents and consent drawings, we make sure you have clarity on what’s being done and why. As project managers, that same clarity follows through to the site, with well-resolved drawings and documentation helping the builders deliver the project smoothly and efficiently, with fewer questions and delays along the way.

The result is a clear, stress-free process for our client and a result that suits the way you live.

This Island Bay home is designed for family life 🏠

Our clients had outgrown their home, but loved the location and views. We utilised an underused part of the section to extend the house to create a 4-bedroom home with space for everyone, including separate living areas for adults and teenagers, and an all important ensuite for the master bedroom.

Designing with budget in mind, we kept the extension minimal, focusing on creating a greater sense of space through height and natural light.

We reused materials wherever possible, retaining the existing kitchen joinery and adding units to match. Retaining the gorgeous native timber floors - all while improving comfort with upgraded insulation, new aluminium joinery and ducted central heating.

The result is a home that feels connected and well considered, with clear separation between living and sleeping spaces, and a strong connection to the north facing deck and garden.

Huge thank you to SGB Construction for their craftsmanship and collaboration!

On Saturday, Kate had the privilege of being part of something incredible - being a member of the support crew for her friend Danielle Falconer who swam 40km over 16 hours across lake Taupo. It was an awesome day to be out on the lake, watching Danielle push herself to the limits. Not only did she finish the swim, she also raised over $15,000 for Dementia NZ. Being proud is an understatement!

You can check out her swim_taupo page on Instagram to see her journey.

🌻 WIP update from this glorious Wellington garden

Over the past few months, the team at Chris Swift Construction Ltd has been measuring, cutting and installing the frames of this house extension with precision. It's a tricky job, lining up with an existing 100 year old Villa. With the framing almost complete, we can expect it to be fully enclosed with roofing, cladding, doors and windows in the next few months.

The existing Villa has had many lives, including being two different flats, and the existing rooms at the rear of the house were small, dark and disconnected. The proposed extension for this property creates a light, sunny and connected space for daily life, blurring the line between house and garden.

More updates to come!

Two beautiful old villas, with two different issues. One took up prime position on a large under-utilised site, and the other had settled on its perimeter foundation walls creating uneven floors.

As part of our design process we tested the feasibility of different design and remedial options, and in both of these cases - temporarily shifting and re-piling was the best outcome. Carefully handled by Duane and the team at Moores Valley Piling and the talented crew at D&G Projects, helping these beautiful homes to last another 100 years.
