As summer winds down, you may notice some of your flowers and perennials starting to look a little tired—but don’t be too quick to cut everything back.
💡 This week’s tip: Know what to trim now and what to leave until later.
As you clean up your landscape beds:
🌸 Deadhead spent blooms to keep beds looking tidy
✂️ Remove damaged or diseased plant material
🌿 Leave healthy foliage on many perennials while it’s still green
🐝 Consider leaving some seed heads and stems to provide food and habitat for birds and beneficial insects
Cutting plants back too early can remove healthy foliage they’re still using to store energy for next season.
A little strategic cleanup now can keep your beds looking great without rushing your landscape into fall.
