Urban Design Associates

Urban Design Associates UDA is a leader in sustainable regeneration and growth of cities. We do this with a regionally-sensi Our firm was built on principles.

Since our founding year, we have been innovating, testing, and evolving the practice of urban design. We believe that all places, urban and rural, new and established, can have a remarkable sense of place, serve as diverse and exciting places to live, and thrive today and into the future. Our name, Urban Design Associates, implies our collaborative process. Our firm is based on clear communication

and consensus building, rigorous analysis, testing, and coordination to reach workable, creative solutions in challenging contexts, whatever they be. We build on the unique character and positive qualities of each place in which we are privileged to work. By working at many scales, we find ways of coordinating the design of individual buildings; the public spaces they help create; the neighborhoods, towns, and cities of which they are a part; and the regional culture they celebrate into a viable, sustainable, and vital urban tapestry. Our projects are conceived as three-dimensional environments through the use of perspective drawing and modeling techniques in the early stages of conceptual design. The character and quality of building designs and landscape elements become part of the planning process when the most important decisions are made.

What tools would you take on a workshop?
We are problem-solvers. UDA Charrettes are week-long workshops where we learn from the place, listen to the community, test big ideas, and facilitate decision-making. That takes a lot of tools!

Last week, UDAers enjoyed a beautiful evening with a docent-led tour at the 59th Carnegie International, "If the word we," followed by a gathering on a rooftop in Oakland. Art, great food, and beautiful Pittsburgh views — plenty of inspiration to bring back to the studio.

Created by the community, for the community!
Back in 2023, when the Housing Authority of Oklahoma City was applying for a HUD Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant, they asked Will Rogers Courts residents what they would like to see in the neighborhood, and the residents' answer was loud and clear: COLOR in South Rotary Park.
Three years later, thanks to the partnership between OCHA, the City of OKC, and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, that dream is now a reality. A formerly unused parking lot has been transformed into a lively gathering space with improved crosswalks, areas for food trucks and service providers, and banners.
To celebrate this exciting milestone, residents and neighbors helped dedicate the space with cotton candy, snow cones, games, community partner giveaways, and by adding their handprints to the mural.
