Mahlum recently presented at ’s Architecture for Health Committee Spring Conference, sharing the vision for community wellness at The Hub at .

Joined by Renee Jensen, the presentation explored how hospitality-driven design, integrated care, and community connection can support healthier outcomes for patients, staff, and the broader community. The conversation also highlighted how a connected health ecosystem can help create a sustainable financial model that supports long-term care delivery — including the role of in shaping the health experience at Snoqualmie Valley Health, coming in early 2027.

A fun bonus: presenting with Mahlum’s own Haggett Hall () rising in construction just outside the window (image 4) 🙌

It was exciting to share the Cleveland High School designs with thousands of community members late last month. Alumni, neighbors, and future students were able to see designs of the new school and share their memories about what makes Cleveland unique.

This event was a great cap to 2 1/2 years of engagement with the Cleveland community, including more than 20 planning/design committee meetings, six public workshops, and dozens of focus group meetings with students and staff. Salvage, abatement, and deconstruction will start this summer. Next school year, students will begin learning at Cleveland @ Marshall. Instruction will begin at the modernized Cleveland in fall 2029. Our passion for working to create a healthier and more sustainable planet goes beyond the work we do in our offices, and we're grateful for the opportunities to positively impact our local communities.

In celebration of Earth Day, Mahlum volunteered with the local non-profit, for their annual Earth Day Event at Scott Elementary School! We supported two hands-on initiatives: building worm compost bins to educate participants about growing their own gardens, and assisting the Kids Clothing Swap.

Shout out to Growing Gardens for working to empower every Oregonian with experience in growing food and knowledge in how to advocate for a more equitable food system. 🌱🍅

Last week, we welcomed student interns into our studio as part of the first Interior Architecture Advisory Council Shadowing Program at the University of Oregon (). They spent their spring break collaborating with our teams, participating in all-office design pin-ups, and gaining real-world insight to support their transition into the profession.

A highlight of the week was a site visit to ’s Haggett Hall, where students experienced the space firsthand while listening to conversations around design decisions, user experience, and future improvements. We’ve found that moments like these help bridge the gap between academic learning and practice - supporting the next generation of designers 🙌
