Material decisions shape more than aesthetics; they impact human health, climate health, and equity across the built environment. We’re excited to share that Miller Hull’s Chris Hellstern contributed to the development of the AIAU certificate series, Designer’s Guide to Holistic Material Selection to Improve Health, Equity, and the Environment, now available through The American Institute of Architects.

Developed in collaboration with industry leaders, researchers, and practitioners, the five-course series provides architects and design professionals with practical tools for understanding material impacts, evaluating transparency data, and making more informed decisions in practice.

Chris’s involvement reflects our ongoing commitment to education, advocacy, and advancing healthier, lower-carbon material strategies. Thank you to the AIA and the many partners and contributors who helped bring this resource to life and continue pushing the profession forward through collaboration and shared knowledge.

Kennedy Library is featured on Dezeen.

Designed as a more open, welcoming place for students, our renovation brings the building back to its original intent, reconnecting spaces to the central courtyard and creating a clearer, more intuitive experience throughout.

“‘Every design move was focused on the student experience,’ Miller Hull Partnership principal Danielle Buttacavoli told Dezeen, explaining that the project extended the building's original design intent rather than departing from it. On the exterior, the team replaced all of the exterior glazing with high-performance insulated glass and modified the roof to accommodate future photovoltaic installation. ‘These changes work with the retained exterior shade fins to reduce solar heat gain and improve the building's thermal performance,’ the studio said.” - Dezeen

The new U.S. Consulate General Mérida is our fourth project completed with the U.S. Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations, and achieved LEED Gold Certification earlier this year.

Exceeding stringent federal performance goals by integrating utility optimization and natural hazard adaptation, the Consulate serves the needs of American citizens and visa applicants from across Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula, including the popular destinations of Cancún and Cozumel. The seven-acre campus draws upon the dual influences of the historic Maya and colonial eras, seen through the lens of the region’s rich contemporary culture.

To celebrate National Volunteering Month, our San Diego office spent the day volunteering with Feeding San Diego, a proud partner of Feeding America.

As one of the region’s leading food rescue and hunger relief nonprofits, Feeding San Diego rescued 32 million pounds of food and distributed 31 million meals across the community in the last year. During our shift, the team packed more than 1,000 pounds of bread to help support local families.

Fisher Pavilion is Seattle Center’s hub for community events in the heart of the city’s most iconic campus.

Tucked beneath a public plaza and opening to a central fountain, the earth-sheltered pavilion preserves views and connections between surrounding buildings. Its operable garage doors and nearly 20-foot-high event hall host everything from exhibitions and catered events to winter ice skating, making it a central gathering place in the shadow of the Space Needle.
