Rolluda Architects recognizes Women’s History Month by celebrating the women at our firm! Each one brings a distinctive quality to our office culture, which is echoed through the work they do. Rolluda is proud to work alongside these talented women who help build a stronger, more sustainable, and inclusive future for the communities they serve.

Leading the sustainable charge at Rolluda Architects is Project Architect Jess Lentner. She is working to build a better, more sustainable future through her design. Beyond the office, Jess's commitment to the planet is reflected in her daily life.

Thank you to an incredible group of trailblazing women, making changes in our world each in their own unique way!

Happy Women’s History Month to all women from all of us at Rolluda Architects!

On Saturday, February 21st, Team Rolluda had the pleasure of joining the West Seattle community in celebrating the grand reopening of their beloved Hiawatha Community Center. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, city leaders, including Council member Rob Saka and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, offered commemorative remarks before opening the doors to the public.

Constructed in 1910 and 1911, the Hiawatha Community Center is the oldest building of its kind to serve the residents of West Seattle. The community center’s renovation was part of a $7.5 million modernization project with the primary goal of improving the historic building’s structural safety. Additionally, the city recognized this as an important opportunity to transform this facility into a prime example for urban sustainability, upgrading it to become Seattle’s first fully electrified community center.

In partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, Rolluda Architects provided services to advance the building’s structural stabilization, seismic and safety improvements, interior renovations, and electrification. Our firm is overjoyed to have had the honor of helping to reunite Hiawatha Community Center with the communities it serves.

The center is currently operating with limited hours and is expected to be fully operational on March 9th.

Black History Month is an important time for celebrating Black excellence, while reflecting on and acknowledging the Black experience in America. With 100 years of this special commemoration and counting, we wanted to share some raw perspectives on Black History from our designers who exemplify the leadership, excellence, and drive that reflect the hidden stories of Black America.

Rolluda Architects believes in a world where all people can live with safety, dignity, and a sense of community. Through our practice, we’ve seen firsthand that diversity and inclusion are pillars of the just, community-based, and people-first design that propels society forward.

We invite you to join us in continuing to stand with and celebrate Black communities throughout the nation—this month and beyond.

A project long in the making, Western Washington University’s Coast Salish House of Healing is set to be completed by mid-March of this year. Rolluda Architects, Wellman & Zuck Constructors, Jones & Jones Architects, and additional consultants comprised the Design-Build team that was honored to bring the project to life.

Upon completion, the House of Healing will serve as a space to support education, community gatherings, cultural events, and other necessary services for the Native American student community at WWU. At its core, the House of Healing’s goal is to provide a secure space for collective healing in response to shared historical trauma and to harness the power of traditional and cultural practices to overcome hardship.

Once the doors open in mid-March, the House of Healing will come into its role as an important lifeline for the campus communities it will serve.

Stay tuned for more on this impactful project in early Spring!

Rolluda Architects’ Phase I work on the Mukilteo School District's Serene Lake Elementary School addition is estimated to be completed this Spring.

In late 2022, Rolluda Architects partnered with the Mukilteo School District to both master plan the replacement of its existing elementary school and design its Phase I portion. To build this project off of a community-based foundation, our team held a series of predesign programming workshops involving the Mukilteo School District and Serene Lake administration along with staff, parents, and students. These efforts served to holistically define the project’s guiding principles, program use and space needs, and educational specifications. Detailed phasing has been carefully planned to allow students to remain in the existing school for the 2024-2026 school years while construction is taking place.

The entirety of the elementary school replacement will be approximately 68,000 square feet, while Phase I construction includes the addition of 8 classrooms totaling approximately 15,000 square feet. When all is said and done, the new elementary school will serve up to 640 students.

Keep an eye out for more on this project at its completion!

As one of the first of our projects on its way to completion in the new year, Rolluda Architects is excited to see King County Metro’s Tukwila Base come to life. Currently in its soft launch, Tukwila Base’s official operations are set to begin in the second half of this year.

Our firm proudly partnered with Stantec and McKinstry on Tukwila Base, which spans 544,000 square feet and includes new maintenance spaces and vehicle charging equipment. The new base provides parking and charging stations for 120 new zero-emission buses and features numerous sustainability efforts to reduce energy consumption and reuse materials. Underscoring the county’s commitment to a sustainable future, the buses operating out of this base will serve communities of South King County that are disproportionately impacted by fossil fuel pollution.

Representing a crucial step in building sustainable infrastructure, Tukwila Base is a project that exemplifies our firm’s commitment to sustaining our communities through design—both present and future.

Learn more about this project on our website by following the link in our bio and keep an eye out for more electrified buses around town later in the year!

From all of us at Rolluda Architects, we wish you a truly pleasant holiday season full of peace, love, and laughter.

Here’s to more amazing relationships and great opportunities in 2026!
