From Jerry Wolveridge;

In 2006, we were invited to design a home on a piece of predominantly cleared but otherwise untouched agricultural land in Metcalfe, a quiet farming district just beyond Kyneton.

What we found was something rare - an elevated, completely private landscape where the horizon felt endless. It was a place that made you feel a million miles from anywhere.

After the planning application was lodged, the clients decided to sell the land. I purchased it from them in 2007, and some time later we worked again together on their beach house.

Across the next 20 years we shaped this place into the Hillplains House, then added a roof‑planted garage, the Hillplains Cottage and a natural pool. We planted hundreds of trees. Our children grew up here off the grid.

Life has shifted, as it does. With high school and life changes drawing us back toward the city, it feels like the right moment to say goodbye to the home we’ve created, loved and cared for over two decades.

Over the coming weeks we’ll share more images and memories from our time here.

The Farm creates many opportunities for the landscape, light and materials to play off one another. Carefully framed openings bring the surrounding trees and pasture into the home, while the timber lining becomes part of the experience of moving through the house. Within this sense of connection, the home also provides a feeling of protection from the wildness of the landscape, allowing its changing light, trees, sky and seasons to remain closely connected to everyday life.

IN DESIGN — Bathhouse, Kyneton

Located in the heart of Kyneton's heritage listed Piper St, a new bathhouse, for locals and tourists alike. Set within a rich heritage context, we are creating a series of spaces designed to bring calm, slowdown and reinvigoration.

Currently in detail design and documentation stages, this is one of several projects we’re working on in Kyneton, and one we’re particularly excited to see develop.

A few early glimpses of the project alongside the site as it is today.

The Footy WIP.

Beautiful carpentry work from the team - wrapping the elliptical shroud in blackbutt cladding with controlled erosion stain.

Not sure if the carpenters were loving or hating the architects as they worked through the warping curve in plan and elevation.

Loving. Surely.

Progress is coming along nicely at one of our Mount Martha beach projects, just a stone's throw from The Footy.

The home is anchored by , grounding it both physically and tonally. Working closely with and , we've carefully developed the brick detailing throughout, including one of the project's defining spaces, the subterranean cellar.

Set above the Hopkins River, River House is shaped by a sequence of spaces that reveal the landscape gradually. Carefully positioned openings and subtle shifts in level create distinct relationships with the river, where each room offers its own unique outlook and connection to place.

There is a familiarity to returning home. The roads are remembered, the changing weather anticipated, and the landscape carries a quiet sense of belonging that never really disappears.

Set on a steep site overlooking the Hopkins River, River House sits quietly within the land. Hidden from the street, it reveals little on arrival, allowing the experience of the project to unfold gradually. The form follows the topography, allowing each change in level to strengthen its connection to the landscape.

The Farm represents a bold ideal and a delicate touch in one. Beneath the curved roof, protected outdoor spaces sit comfortably between the home, water and landscape. The form here is the result of spatial experience and passive design principles, a large overhang to create more covered space, enhanced by a double height volume, ensuring the winter sun (how good is it today!) finds its way as deep into the floor plan as possible.
