$19M grant awarded for the construction of our design for a new wing to Gateways Mental Hospital! We couldn’t be happier for our client and the rest of the team that worked tirelessly for a month to support our design with cost and schedule estimating, engineering, and grant writing! Soon this project will be getting very real!

We recently completed the restoration of this historic structure behind a stage at one of the Sunset Studios production lots. The Golden Girls were among those that we’re told used it. I’m including the reference photo we had.

We ended up having to basically rebuild it in place, replacing a ton of termite and rot damaged wood, and adding foundations. Turns out it was built without footings, basically as a lean-to against the back of the stage! 😱

We had a great team, with Sunset Studios, CSI Construction, and IDG Engineering.

Which one is your favorite? I like the bench maze, but the elephant exhibition one would be incredible to walk through… powerful.

PS the house in the story below this one is beautiful as well.

By adding curved planes, colorful lights and organic seating, architects are evolving the maze typology beyond networks of walls.

We just completed a design for a client using them to apply for a large grant to add to their mental health facility.
We decided that wood would be a central element, and opted to design using Mass Timber above a new two level parking garage. We should hear back mid-summer.

Conceptual design is one of our services, and we’re blessed when we have opportunities like this to flex those muscles!

A sneak peak at a design concept we’ve created for the renovation of a dated and somewhat austere office building lobby (a couple current photos included). With low ceilings in the building and a budget conscious client, our concept is to focus on transformation through texture and light, while keeping much of what is already in place. A fascinating design for housing single people, by one of the greatest architects to ever live, Alvar Aalto. From an exhibition of the Alvar Aalto museum in Jyväskylä, Finland, this design was for Bremen Germany long, long ago, but with improved kitchens, bathrooms, and common areas, it would stand the test of time. A beautiful design, perhaps it can inspire and inform today.
