“extensions must look like extensions” - Really?

Some positive online comments have prompted me to write this.

Its a rare one… and worth celebrating.

This two-storey side extension, one of many we've done on Southway in Horsforth, was designed to blend in, not stand out as an obvious add-on. No set-down ridge, no awkward set-back… (we've all seen them, designed by planners). This is just a seamless extension that looks like it’s always been there.

Against the odds, and their usual form, Leeds Planning actually worked with us on this one, recognising that good design isn’t about blindly following the “extensions must look like extensions” rulebook.

The result speaks for itself.

We’ll keep pushing for this approach, because homeowners deserve better than clunky, policy-driven bolt-ons.
