I haven’t posted for a while but there’s lots going on behind the scenes. The lambing is finished and I’m getting some yarn dyed again. I’m trying to get as much as I can on the website but the shop has been busy so often the yarn sells out before I get get it uploaded! I’ve also welcomed several tour groups and have been teaching some lovely participants for . It’s good to be in this season once again, although it’s a busy time, there’s so many enjoyable things. The sun has even made an appearance today!

The lambing is nearly finished here, only 3 sheep to go. It has gone generally fairly smoothly this year but the other night this little lamb needed a bit of extra help as she had somehow got separated from her mum. I took her into the house to warm up and bottle fed her and soon she was fighting fit. The third photo shows her the next day, they soon learn where they can get food!

It was a beautiful day here on Friday, the first calm day we’ve had for a while so I took the chance to dye a batch of yarn with indigo. The process requires the yarn to be in contact with the air for the blue to develop so I need to do it outside; there hasn’t been many chances to do that so far this year! This photo was taken at the end of the day when the setting sun was reflecting off the hills.
After this the skeins are rinsed, dried, rewound into skeins, twisted and labelled. After that they will be added to the website.
Unfortunately we are still having problems with the website and so you will see orders can’t go through at the moment - I am hoping it won’t be long until this is fixed 🤞🤞🤞 so sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for sticking with me 😊

The gales have been relentless over the past few weeks and there’s snow again today (if you zoom in you can see some of the steep sheltering beside the d**e!). Our knit night in the local church hall has been cancelled tonight so it will be a night beside the fire. I have started knitting the Riggie’s Vest by - as soon as I saw her first sample I knew I had to cast it on. I’m using Langsoond DK in shade clod, and really enjoying this unusual construction. I’m looking forward to finishing and wearing this one!

Happy New Year from a snowy Shetland!
We’ve had a lot of snow over the past few days, I always think it makes everything look so pretty and I love the light that accompanies it. I still get excited when it snows, I think it stems back to possibly getting a day off school!
Thanks for all your orders over the festive period, they have all bern packed up and hopefully will be picked up tomorrow.
It has been great to have some much needed time off over the festive period, I’m looking forward to seeing what this year brings!

I can’t believe a week ago I was at the first day of ! I has been a busy and exhausting couple of weeks, so although it’s back to the Shetland weather it was nice to get a warm welcome from the sheep yesterday!
It really was a lovely event, as others have said there was a really nice atmosphere and something special about it I can’t put my finger on. Thank you so much to the organisers and for all your hard work to put together such an amazing festival.
I took very few photos (I always forget!) but had to get one of inside my new favourite cafe and the amazing brioche bun with orange filling at where the event was held - if only I could nip back again for another!
Thanks to everyone who came to the stand for a chat and to buy yarn, to everyone who came to my class in Fair Isle knitting on a Sunday and huge thanks to Matt who came with me, did all the driving, carrying and lifting covered the stand when I was teaching (having had a crash course in yarn!)
Super also to catch up with (and to meet for the first time) and lots of others!
I’m going to take a few days to recover so I’m working through emails and messages slowly so will get back to you soon if you’re waiting for a reply and will get orders out early this next week 🧶🧶🧶

I’m looking forward to exhibiting at this weekend with Langsoond yarn; it sounds as if it’s going to be a great event. There are still some tickets too if you haven’t managed to get any. I’ve had a couple of unexpected days in Aberdeen as the winds are picking up so I got the ferry from. Shetland on Tuesday night instead. I’ve been working out of coffee shops and the hotel room! I can highly recommend for coffee and food 😊
