Alloy Workshop We are more than you think... We talk about budget early and often in our design process and try to weed out leads that emphasize price over value,” he says.

Like its name, Alloy Architecture and Construction is an unusual combination of disciplines that give the company greater strength. “To actually have a licensed architect and contracting abilities is pretty unique,” says Zach Snider, the firm’s owner and construction manager.

“We put an emphasis on our customer experience. Having an arch

itectural emphasis also means Alloy can provide a more complete—and accurate—bid. “We go through a rigid and well-defined design process that leads to a full set of drawings and spec list,” Snider says. But Alloy’s real success comes down to the culture Snider and Zimmerman have created. The two put an emphasis on training, encouraging architects to get and keep licenses and contractors to get NARI certifications. Along with a standard benefit package the company gives “Swarms”—work parties that do things like build decks—to the the worker they hit performance targets. We found our unicorn 🦄✨

Amanda Harlow is joining the Alloy team as our new Design Manager, and honestly… she fits right in already. From her contagious smile and quick sense of humor, to the fact that she can’t help but dance when Bachata comes on, she is our kind of people.

Amanda joins us after spending the past 4 years in the same role with Habitat for Humanity, bringing both incredible talent and heart to everything she creates. A UVA graduate and Charlottesville lover, she appreciates all the charm our city has to offer, but also loves to dream a little bigger, especially when it comes to traveling the world (with a special soft spot for the canals of Venice 🇮🇹).

We’re so excited for you all to get to know Amanda and even more excited to have her as part of the Alloy crew.

We are still thinking about our BBQ + Block Party from last week and honestly… it will be one for the books.

We love a good parking lot hang, complete with a kids water balloon fight and an incredible food spread headlined with ribs off the homemade grill pit, courtesy of our fearless leader, Zach.

Word on the street: “it was the best work party ever.” We’re inclined to agree.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us in the fun and made it such a great day together! We appreciate your partnership, support and camaraderie! Already counting down until next year...

A Studio Worth Celebrating 🥂

We didn’t just finish a building, we celebrated a dream!

Friends, neighbors, family, Brwarchitects, the Alloy team… and of course, the real guest of honor 🐾 - the family dog - gathered to toast the completion of this art studio in the trees.

What started as an act of love is now a space filled with light, creativity, and community.

Seeing our client share her studio, the place where she now paints, hosts workshops, and greets the morning with yoga, reminded us why we do what we do. It felt extra special to celebrate all together after having the honor of building their primary residence previously, making this whole project feel like a fun reunion!

Great projects are built with craftsmanship.
The best ones are built with people at the center and ongoing collaboration. We're very grateful!

More Than an Art Studio
While this space was designed around our client’s art, it was built to flex and accommodate life beyond painting.

✔ Parties and gatherings
✔ Fully functioning bathroom
✔ Spacious, workshop-ready layout
✔ Morning yoga retreat
✔ Exercise space
✔ Guest house potential

The design by BRW Architects prioritized both creativity and flexibility, while Alloy’s construction ensured the space could function comfortably for a range of uses.

It’s a creative studio first, but also a fully livable extension of the home.
The beauty of thoughtful design and construction?

It evolves with the people who use it.

Every decision started with one priority: natural light and materials.

BRW Architects oriented the studio toward the woods and designed expansive windows that pull the outside in. Alloy carried that vision through the construction and natural material finishes that echo the landscape beyond the glass.
Hardwood floors, organic textures, and ever-changing daylight shape the experience of the space.

This isn’t just a workspace, it’s a place where light shifts throughout the day and the seasons, changing the mood, the energy, and the art itself.

When you build around how someone lives and creates, the space becomes part of the creative process.

When our clients first built their home with Alloy Architecture & Construction, they dreamed of one day adding something special to their property.

Years later, that dream became this standalone art studio.

Designed by BRW Architects around the artist wife’s creative process and the surrounding landscape, the studio is filled with natural light and organic materials that blur the line between indoors and out.

Alloy brought the vision to life through thoughtful construction, craftsmanship, and material finishes that connect the structure to the woods around it.

Our artist client says she feels like she can “be in the trees - like she’s part of nature.”

What began as an act of love has become a fully functioning creative retreat, and the heart of their property.

This week we’re celebrating Women in Construction Week by honoring two badass women on the Alloy team: Lead Carpenter Jill and Construction Manager Anne. 🔨

With decades of experience between them, they bring skill, leadership, and steady problem-solving to every job site.

Clients appreciate Jill’s steady, can-do approach, and our team is grateful for the calm, capable presence she brings to every job site.

Anne, our resident Cajun, is always ready for whatever the day brings, whether that’s navigating a tight crawl space or cooking up a pot of gumbo for the crew.

Both avid travelers with a passion for life and their craft, we’re lucky to build alongside them.

Cheers to Jill, Anne, and all the women shaping the future of construction! 👏

We’re looking for a Design Manager who can take a project from first sketch to final build; balancing creativity, cost, collaboration, and craftsmanship every step of the way.

The unicorn who loves:
✨ Dreaming big
📊 Talking budgets
📐 Sweating the details
🤝 Leading with humility

At Alloy, we build homes that reflect the people who live in them. That takes vision, precision, and strong leadership.
