We’re thrilled to share that this remote island retreat in northern Wisconsin is featured in the latest issue of Artful Living. Inspired by Scandinavian design traditions and thoughtfully woven into the surrounding forest, the home was designed to feel deeply connected to the land, water, and surrounding landscape. Can you envision your house as a sleek, modern show-stopper?
We helped our client do just that—transforming a dated, disconnected home into a light-filled modern space that feels every bit as amazing as they hoped it would.

We love the challenge of rethinking what's possible—digging into the details, pushing past constraints, and delivering results that absolutely delight. There’s nothing better than seeing our clients experience that transformation. It’s amazing how much changing the windows can transform the entire experience of a home.

For the Mod Remodel, we reimagined a dated lakeside home with a playful early ’70s-inspired aesthetic, opening the interiors to light, views, and stronger connections to the landscape. Large window bays—now squared off with glass extending to the floor—bring the main living area closer to the lake while creating cleaner walls for art. Below, large bi-fold doors transformed the lower level into a bright, indoor-outdoor living space with direct access to the garden.

From the exterior, the new window design creates a cleaner, crisper, and more visually dramatic aesthetic.

Is great architecture a luxury or an investment? According to Redfin, the median sale price per square foot in the city of Minneapolis is currently $241. Our Modern English Arts & Crafts project recently sold for $717 per square foot—illustrating that great design and high-quality construction can indeed be rewarded in the marketplace.

And, this sale appears to also have set a record for highest public selling price for a single-family home in the city of Minneapolis...ever.

We’re thrilled to see this wonderful home featured in the latest Lake Society Magazine.

Over many years and multiple phases, our clients’ vision for a complete transformation of both home and property came to life—and we were proud to be part of it every step of the way. Nantucket Re-Creation evolved from a rambler into a timeless Shingle-style home distinguished by balanced asymmetry, varied gables, and animated architectural details. Inside, thoughtful proportions and crafted details continue throughout, creating a home full of personality and small delights.

The final chapter brought richly layered landscape design, with beautifully inviting spaces for outdoor living, dining, and relaxing.

Daylight was a real challenge on this site. On the southwest side, a steep upslope filled with mature trees is protected by code. On the other, a required setback from the water further limits the footprint. The result is a tight buildable area with limited access to consistent natural light.

To address this, we conducted detailed sun studies early in the design process. A digital model located the home in its exact geographic position and incorporated topography, slope, and existing tree canopies, allowing us to track how sunlight moves across the site and would move into the house throughout the day and seasons.

The findings led to coordinated design moves. The driveway was positioned between the slope and the house to create a “light zone.” The home was set higher, away from the toe of the slope, to receive light from above the trees. The plan was organized as interconnected pavilions, with the main living areas in a single pavilion without rooms above. This allowed the roofline and windows to extend higher, bringing natural light deep into the kitchen and living room.

The result is a home designed to feel bright, comfortable, and closely connected to its setting, even within significant natural and code constraints.

The owners sold their cabin and chose to combine metro and lake living into a single primary residence. Now under construction, the home is built into a sideways lakeside slope, with roof forms and gables stepping down to help it sit comfortably on the exposed end rather than read as a full 2.5-story elevation.

High north-facing transom windows add height, light, and expanded views on the lake side, while south-facing clerestories draw natural light deep into the lower level walkout, designed to capture the fun of their former getaway with direct water access.

We look forward to sharing more as the home takes shape. Until then, see the renderings of what’s to come: https://www.tea2architects.com/portfolio/in-progress/...

Hand-built fieldstone piers and an inset planter create an inviting pathway from roadside to entry. Hanging pendants illuminate the porch, turning a typically hard-to-light area into a warm welcome for this Lake Minnetonka home.
