We didn’t know it yet, but the obsession started early. Exhibit A: circa 1980s, perched on the most patterned, beloved couch in America, holding a cat like a design review.

Turns out that couch (still circulating in my family and built to last) was an early lesson in “more is more” — pattern layering, color blocking, texture clash. We just didn’t have the vocabulary for it yet.

Trace, sketch pencil and ink here 🙌🏼 Call me old-fashioned, but the way I first learned to design is forever engrained in me. This floor plan sketch is the start to a home alteration and addition project in the Historic Venice district. Designed for a young family, we prioritized flexibility of spaces over time and creating massing synonymous with the historic Nolen era of the neighborhood.

We are 12 months into construction on this modern ranch in Northern Georgia. Our site visit was a whirlwind three days of meetings with the builder, cabinetry maker, tile setters, stone masons, pool contractor, electrician and landscape architects. The dynamic rooflines shape phenomenal spaces and frame the picturesque views of the rolling hills.
